Summer of Love 08/07/2010
![]() "If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair," written by John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas and sung by Scott McKenzie, inspired over 100,000 young people from across the country to converge on Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco for the Summer of Love in 1967. Wafting on the ocean breezes predominant in San Francisco, the pervasive scent of Patchouli mixed with the potent aroma of Ganja filled the air with a perfume that anyone here during this period of time would never forget. Our Potion of Love captures this memory with a base of Patchouli and Sandalwood mixed with Vanilla and Amber middle notes and a Neroli top note, combined with other exotic ingredients. ![]() With groups like Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin living within 2-3 blocks of Haight and Ashbury, this area became the center of the San Francisco Renaissance that culminated in the music festival of Woodstock in 1969. Timothy Leary's "Turn on, tune in, drop out," became the mantra of youth. Hunter S. Thompson labeled the district "Hashbury" in The New York Times Magazine, and the activities in the area were reported almost daily. The movement was also fed by the counterculture's own media, particularly the San Francisco Oracle, whose pass-around readership topped 500,000 at its peak that year. Reminiscent of this period of time, our Tobacco Road - a blend of Cedarwood and Blonde Tobacco with a twist of multiple Spicy notes and a Lime top note - conjurs up a smoke filled men's club in the heart of the city for Journalists. ![]() When the newly recruited Flower Children returned home, they brought new ideas, ideals, behavior and fashions to major cities in Canada, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Over 40 years later, the ripples from Haight-Ashbury are still being felt in our culture with a profound and lasting impact, undeniable and quantifiable in music, relationships, ethnic diversity and agenda of social thought. At the core of the counterculture was a spiritual revolution, of leaving Western religions of control and exploring the eastern disciplines of liberation. Four decades later, people are finally beginning to understand what the movement espoused; a way of life that doesn't damage the planet or people. Open your heart to this thought by inhaling Rose Moon: a luscious blend of heady florals including Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine Sambac and Jonquil, among others. The spirit of the counterculture lives on. It lives at every yoga class in a strip mall, at every outdoor rock concert, in the organic produce section of your market and in the heart of your PC, where you can post anything you feel like saying to friends and the world at large on forums like Facebook. The foundation of this way of life, herbs and essential oils, live on in a resurgence of soap makers and natural perfumers who have brought back to life the artisan artform of handcrafted, all natural products. When you come to San Francisco, be sure to wear a flower in your hair. And say hello to Jeanne Rose, world famous Aromatherapist! Chemical Sensitivities 04/13/2010
I am so spoiled, after making my own product for all these years, I completely forgot what it was like to suffer from using a product made with synthetic chemicals. Today, I tried a sample of eye cream that someone sent me, not thinking about how this might affect me. A litte while later; my eyes started burning, my nose running and I began to feel nauseous. I couldn't figure out what the problem was and then I remembered I had put the eye cream on so I ran into the bathroom to rinse my face. I wonder how many people react like this but don't realize what it is that causes it? I certainly didn't at first. Naturals Here to Stay 03/30/2010

I'm very excited to launch this new site, which I put together myself after perusing dozens of web design programs and speaking with over twenty web designers! It's very difficult to explain to someone else exactly what one's vision is and, of course, their style always comes into play as well - which may not entirely dovetail with yours. The other exciting news is our new name: FRESHLY NATURAL. Sonsa Rae Skincare, as a product line, will continue to exist - no worries! In ADDITION to SRS, a new line will be developed under the "Freshly Natural" name going forward. More choices, that's all! I want to thank everyone who has supported SRS since it's inception in 2001. We look forward to many more years of supplying you with high quality, all natural skin care! |
